An Evening With Simon Meade OBE18th December 2016
Simon Meade – Former Commanding Officer and Team Leader of the Red Arrows Aerobatic Display Team
Simon Meade is an inspiring speaker who draws on his wealth of experience in delivering results in an environment where failure is not an option and mistakes costs lives. He takes this profound knowledge and applies this to his experience in business to draw valuable lessons of leadership, motivation, risk and complex project delivery. Simon joined the Royal Air Force at 18 and was flying Harrier jets based in Germany by the time he was 21. He has served in the Falklands and Belize, fought operations in Bosnia and Iraq, and was an instructor in the RAF’s “Top Gun” weapons school. He ran the RAF’s public relations team and was the COO of a Harrier Squadron where he was in charge of off-base deployments, each time commanding 200+ personnel from multiple units (and Services!), having to mould them into a cohesive operating unit where flight safety was a key outcome, in a matter of days. But it is as the Leader of the RAF’s Aerobatic Display Team the Red Arrows, Simon learnt the skills of motivation and leadership, of risk and reward, of key personnel selection and task delivery, of learning from outcomes. Simon led 320 displays in 27 countries and was made an OBE. As part of the role, he engaged with Royalty and world political leaders. Now working as the Business Development Director for a Canadian Renewable Energy technology company, Simon has a busy personal life. He has competed in the Network Q RAC rally, was an international Bobsleigh athlete and Board member of the UK governing body, been an advisor to a UK national charity, and currently represents Great Britain in his age group in triathlon.
